Tonight on the set of Lady Luck, TVG's answer to The View, Christina Olivares declared she had not been involved professionally in the sport "before coming here". Of course, readers of this blog will recall I nominated her for a Viewer's Choice Award last year for her outstanding work on HRTV, where she worked both behind and in front of the camera.
I fear TVG management has brain washed her, as they wish to do with their viewers in their effort to convince them there is no other horse racing network, nor are there any races which aren't shown on TVG. Just as TVG will not so much as mention even the biggest stakes race run at a Magna track, much less show them on tape delay, clearly Tony Allevato has implanted a chip in her brain to block out the memories of her past.
Regardless, I wish her the best. She's always been one of my favorites.

TVG carried on about the big re-design of their graphics they unveiled yesterday, and all I could see is that the colors and fonts were a bit difference. Much ado about nothing. I also noticed that Jessica York got some time on the anchor desk during races the other day. Don't even get me started about her.
A favorite? Really? I found it quite annoying that just about everything Olivares said in the premier episode of Lady Luck was prefaced by some variation of "When I was in show jumping ..." or "My father ..."
I'm with you, Jason. Nothing pisses me off more than listening to Todd Blowhard Shcrupp say "a major racetrack in Arcadia, CA", as if there are seven or eight in Arcadia. I can almost hear Tony Allevato saying "Shhhhh. If the viewers find out about Santa Anita and Gulfstream maybe they wont watch these Hawthorne feeds over the winter anymore."
Yeah, I really do think Christina is excellent. Particularly in her interviews. I'll forgive her the show jumping talk this time. Maybe the producer told them to hammer their horse credentials in the first show, or maybe she was trying to lubricate the convo with Kristin Mulhall, given her background on the blueblood circuit. From here on, I'd kibosh the jumper talk, though. I don't mind the occasional "I remember when my dad..." story, as long as it's relevant and not name dropping.
Like Alan, I really try to restrain my urge to bash Jessica York, sometimes unsuccessfully. We all remember how bad some of the other talent were when they first started, particularly Priscilla Hojiwala. Even though Pricilla still isn't among my favorites, I must admit, she's come a long way.
I like Christina. She has a nice manner and understands the races. The only problem is when I see her I have a more difficult time focusing on the racing form!
Christina, will you marry me?(don't tell my wife)!
