Scooped by Paulick
Rumors have been circulating since the Madoff scandal emerged that former CHRB Chair Richard Shapiro was one of the casualties. After a wee bit of digging and a few phone calls, I'd put some of the picture together. Finally today I was able to get the client list, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Scoop? No such luck. Ray Paulick reported everything I had and a good bit more yesterday. Fucking professionals.

I haven't been following the Madoff (or more specifically, the Madoff-Shapiro) story that closely, but I'm pretty sure Bill Christine gets credit for breaking the news a couple weeks ago that the former CHRB chairman was among the Madoff victims (http://is.gd/iwej) and that the Paulick piece is a follow-up ...
Jessica is absolutely right, Brad. Bill Christine wrote the original piece back on Jan. 15 for HorseRaceInsider.com. My story dealt with how Richard Shapiro's private letter to his Congressman allegedly got in the hands of so many people, including a number of journalists.
So your premise was still right, except Bill is an Eclipse Award winner at his profession!
ah, bill christine. i was even further behind the times. thanks for filling me in.
the rumors on track were nearly immediate, but then i was traveling, and their were no corroborating legal docs yet. also, i didn't even know about the letters and the jamgotchian angle until well after the bill christine piece. i was just hearing scuttlebutt from trackers. i should really learn how to use the google so not to look so foolish in the future.
