Vic Stauffer was trackside at Golden Gate this morning. He will be huslting book for Jason Lumpkins, who is scheduled to begin riding at Golden Gate on December 29th according to Stauffer, who is not new to the profession. Stauffer has kept book for many Jocks over the years at the Fresno meet.
In past years Stauffer was calling races at Gulfstream Park during this time, but Larry Colmus will take over the mic for the meet. Gulfstream's loss is NorCal's gain. One trainer noted "Vic actually works the backstretch. We've got the sorriest bunch of agents of most any circuit, but Vic hustles."
I'll look for a rebuttal from another agent when the Golden Gate meet opens on Tuesday. Mark and Steve, agents for C. Martinez/C. Millwood and P. Flores/L. Martinez respectively usually talk good smack.

So Im curious.... Is booking a step down? I would be interested to hear your thoughtss, along with J. Beam's on this.
At some point in my education, booking jocks seemed like a fun and exciting (although, def. challenging) opportunity.
If you happen to see Vic, maybe you could get his thoughts on that?
Oh, I don't think it's up or down, it's just a different part of the game. If you're just talking about money, Vic probably made more calling races at at top tier track than being an agent in NorCal.
But that's not all that matters. I'd say an agent is more "in the game" than the race caller. You have numerous conversations with connections every day. As an announcer, such contact is less regular. I'd say that being a jock's agent is one of the best ways for somebody working on the front side to keep in touch with the roots of this game, and I really think more of Vic for doing it. I was always impressed that he did every year during the Fresno meet. You know he's got a passion for it, and he's not doing it for the money.
Sure, he's Vic Stauffer, and he could have picked up a gig at some lesser track announcing, but he's doing something that really keeps you sharp and growing in the game. Also, since he's got a place in Marin (accross the Golden Gate Bridge) he can stick close to home.
Also note he picked up a strong jock. Lumpkins gave Baze a run for his money when rode here last a coupla years ago.
Also, it's Jason Beem, not Beam. I've made the same mistake before.
Enjoyed catching up on your site TB Brad...seems like you're having fun with Movement. Interesting news about Stauffer. All the best for the holidays
